Sutura 9, 2026. Composition and assembly of materials using thread and the Japanese stitching technique in concrete, birch plywood and fibreglass. Measures 33 x 23 x 3 cm | 12.9 x 9 x 1.1 in. Unique artwork.
‘Sutura’ is a collection in which materials take centre stage. Concrete, wood, fibreglass and thread are joined together using a system inspired by Japanese sewing techniques, which functions both as a structural element and a visual feature of the work.
The thread runs through and structures the composition, visually conveying the idea of connection and bonding between the different materials. The wood, concrete and fibreglass are joined together by the thread, making the joining system itself visible and turning it into an essential part of the composition.
The collection is based on a Japanese-inspired aesthetic, evident both in the style of the stitching and in the choice of a restrained colour palette, as well as in the pursuit of balance, precision and clean lines.
In Sutura, the execution is deliberately kept clean and understated, allowing the inherent qualities of each material (its texture, weight, surface and relationship to the others) to shape the piece, rather than relying on the use of colour.
The work also explores the interplay between weight and lightness. Concrete, a heavy material with a sculptural presence, is combined with a structure characterised by clean lines and a restrained composition that seeks to create a lighter visual impression of the piece.
